Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which result in damage to the optic nerve and vision loss. This damage is often caused by an abnormally high pressure in the eye and common among older people. Many of us in Trinidad & Tobago most likely know or met someone with such a condition at least once.
- This is a GROUP of conditions characterised by damage to the optic nerve. Sometimes the (Intra-ocular) pressure is too high and that causes the condition. However, sometimes the condition occurs even with normal pressures. Typically a person starts losing their peripheral vision first. Left untreated, this progresses to tunnel vision and ultimately, blindness.
- Generally there are no alerting signs and symptoms. The condition is diagnosed during routine examination.
