The OCT
OCT is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses near-infrared light to image the retina and optic nerve. It has become standard in the assessment and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macula degeneration and other pathology. Early detection as in everything else allows for better long-term management.
Retinal Imaging
Fundus photography aims to replicate what practitioners see with ophthalmoscopy. This makes for better record keeping and patient education. It is especially valuable when documenting diabetic retinopathy.
Retinal Scans
OCT takes a series of cross-section pictures of the retina so each of its distinctive ten layers can be mapped and measured with micrometre resolution giving a view of what lies underneath. Like all types of photography, a camera sees more than we can.
